The idea behind Tended began a few years ago when our founder, Leo Scott Smith, was very involved in the coordination of a charity dedicated to improving lives within the poorer communities of Nepal.

Almost immediately after returning home from one of their community projects, the devastating 2015 earthquake struck the country and Leo was on the next flight out there to provide support and aid relief. Every day of his work brought new dangers, from aftershocks and landslides to collapsed roads and even ambushes, and he was constantly battling for his safety.

Often alone in remote locations, Leo realised that in the event of the unthinkable, he may not be found for hours or even days. At the same time, he received news that his mother had fallen from a high ladder back in the UK. Although not seriously injured, it could have been much worse, especially as she lives alone and no-one would have known she had been involved in an accident.

This inspired Leo to begin his journey into the world of tech and to develop an effective personal safety solution, not only for his mother but for millions around the world!
