Organised by Rail Forum between 26th June - 2nd July, Rail Safety Week is a series of initiatives dedicated to raising the profile of safety across the UK rail industry.
Please join us in supporting this important cause and take part in #RSW23 in any way you can! For some ideas on how to get involved and show your support, please visit the Rail Safety Week website.
Last week, Elaine Clark, CEO of Rail Forum, recorded a short podcast with Network Rail’s CEO Andrew Haines:
Speaking on the safety of track workers Andrew comments: "We put lives at risk by the way we currently work [...] There's almost no equivalent in the world that I can think of where we ask people to work close to a 1,000-tonne train running 100 mph."
Andrew goes on to say how technology advancements can dramatically improve the safety of track workers across Britain, keeping people away from moving trains.
The Network Rail CEO states: “We still make mistakes, we still have accidents, and there's still so much learning to do [...] I believe technology is one of the ways we can get consistent high levels of safety."
To help address the ongoing safety challenges for track workers highlighted by Network Rail, Tended has developed revolutionary geofencing technology that helps teams stay within safe working limits and out of the path of oncoming trains. Our involvement in Rail Safety Week aims to place a spotlight on the importance of technology in improving safety and significantly reduce, if not eliminate, preventable accidents, near-misses and fatalities involving trackside workers on the UK’s rail network.
With less than two weeks to go until Rail Safety Week, we highlight how you can hear more from Tended during the week and learn how we’re implementing revolutionary geofencing technology to help transform safety on the UK’s railways.

Webinar: Bridging the gap between human vulnerability and worksite safety
Thursday 29th June | ONLINE | 1:00pm - 1:45pm
As part of Rail Safety Week 2023, Tended's Head of Behavioural Science Jules Reed will host this webinar exploring how we can bridge the gap between human vulnerability and worksite safety. Technology has driven perpetual change to create a fourth industrial revolution. Now, it’s making its way into the health and safety space and is becoming increasingly commonplace as a way to respond to human error. It provides a reasonably practicable solution for creating safer, more efficient work environments.
In this webinar, Jules will explain how, with the right tools, organisations can reduce the risk of human error to instil sustainable safety change onsite. And with the right approach, leaders can use technology to bridge the gap between human vulnerability and worksite safety to help end preventable accidents and ensure workers return home safely - every day.
