On Thursday 10th October, Tended hosted its inaugural Innovation Summit at the National Railway Museum in York. Here, an audience of 150 industry executives, change agents and technologists gathered at the conference to learn and discuss how we can use innovative technologies to impact the safety agenda within heavy industries.

Offering some real-life examples of technology innovation to drive safety and effective risk management, expert speakers highlighted the challenges and opportunities we must overcome to create long-lasting change. The conference explored innovative strategies, shared success stories, and discussed emerging trends that will shape our approach to innovation.

The theme of this year's conference focussed on navigating change and overcoming barriers to innovation

Attendees learned to develop a deep understanding of people and the habits that drive our behaviours. Introducing new technology can be daunting, but by investing in our workforce’s journey and fostering an environment of authentic leadership, we can ease this transition. Remember that whilst we as leaders may already be far along our change curve, having rationalised and accepted the innovations to come, our people may still be far behind.

The day explored how behavioural science comes into play, guiding us towards sustainable organisational change through tailored and focused initiatives, like peer-to-peer championing. And, as leaders, embracing a growth mindset and creating a no-judgement zone empowers us to navigate the barriers to innovation more effectively.

In the evening, guests were invited back to the Railway Museum’s Great Hall for a charity fundraiser casino night with drinks and food, in aid of the Railway Children. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, this raised an incredible £1,550 for the charity, which will make a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable children. It was a really well planned out day, with a good range of speakers. I expected it to be more tech based, so it was good to get a balance of the technology and the behavioural aspects, which are really important in getting tech rolled out and accepted into the industry.
The speakers were brilliant - very focussed messages, delivered well and all with the aim of sharing, educating and invoking ideas.  Thank you so much for creating an event that was different to those we usually see in the industry.  I would love to see more of these events as there are so many good ideas out there.
It was really refreshing to see a Human Factors approach to how technology can be best implemented, as so often these great ideas don't get off the ground due to a lack of buy-in from frontline staff. Thank you for a great day and evening.

The conference after-party in aid of Railway Children raised an incredible £1,550 for vulnerable children across the world.

Benjamin Turner, COO at Tended, commented: “A huge thank you to all of those who attended the inaugural Innovation Summit and for contributing to what was a spectacular first event! As we reflect on our time together - the range of speakers, the panel, the networking, the wonderful venue and the evening socialising - we hope you found that the day did indeed “Inform, Educate, and Entertain”! We hope you are inspired, as we are, to drive the change within your organisations and create impact across the industry at large.”
