We are delighted to share that Tended, has entered an exciting new partnership with Safelines BV, part of ATR Group, to expand the deployment of its geofencing technology across the Netherlands. This builds upon Tended’s existing presence in the country and is their second partnership, having already partnered with rail technology provider Dual Inventive in 2024.
Safelines BV is the largest trackside safety provider in the Netherlands, having specialised in railway safety for over two decades. The partnership brings together Tended’s proven technology with Safelines BV’s strong local expertise to advance worksite safety on the Dutch rail network.
It represents a natural evolution of the company’s commitment to improving safety through digital solutions, combining its expertise of the Dutch rail industry with Tended’s geofencing system. Together, both companies will support the Netherlands’ infrastructure managers and rail contractors in digitising safety processes that have traditionally relied on manual methods.
Leo Scott Smith, CEO at Tended, said “This partnership with Safelines BV highlights Tended’s commitment to improving safety. Safelines BV’s experience in the Dutch rail industry will help us deliver geofencing at scale across the industry. We’re excited for this next step in Tended’s journey and look forward to improving safety together.”
Roel Van der Aa, Commercial Director at Safelines, said “At Safelines, we see great potential in Tended’s geofencing technology to strengthen railway safety in the Netherlands. By combining our practical expertise in trackside safety with Tended’s innovative digital solutions, we can help clients work more safely, efficiently and with greater real-time insight on site. This partnership reflects our shared ambition to modernise safety processes and make rail worksites smarter and more secure.”

Tended’s geofencing technology allows organisations to create digital boundaries around defined areas of a worksite to represent safe work zones, access points and routes. High accuracy positioning devices attached to workers’ PPE or fixed to plant, machinery and equipment emit an alert if one of these boundaries is crossed. These notifications help people maintain a safe distance from hazards, access worksites through approved entry points and make safer decisions in complex rail environments.
When deployed on plant and other equipment, Tended’s devices provide supervisors with live visibility of asset movements across the site, improving operational oversight, reducing reliance on two-way communication, and supporting line hand-back by helping teams check equipment locations when works are completed.
The company’s latest solution, Virtual Worksite Marker Boards, replaces the manual and time-consuming task of placing physical marker boards onsite with digital boundaries. This has delivered operational impact, not only enhancing safety for those working on the tracks, but also delivering major efficiency benefits that include time savings of up to an hour per shift and redeployment of staff on other critical duties.
Tended’s technology is already well established in the UK, having been adopted by multiple Network Rail routes and regions and across leading principal contractors including Siemens, SPL Powerlines and CRSA.
