We are delighted to announce that last night, Tended's geofencing technology won the Highly Commended Award in the Innovation of The Year category at the National Rail Awards! Known among rail professionals as the "Railway Oscars", the premier awards scheme celebrates excellence and achievement across every aspect of the railway sector, from individual contributions made by those on the front line to major engineering triumphs on some of the railway’s biggest projects.
Attending a glamorous awards ceremony at London's prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, the Tended team took home the trophy for the innovation category which recognises "finding new ways of doing the job or new technologies that will change the railway."
Tended won for the application of its geofencing solution to the railway, which uses a combination of geospatial technology, wearables and behavioural science to help protect those working trackside.
Now being rolled out to Network Rail routes and principal contractors, the technology comprises an online Planning Dashboard and accompanying Wearable that can be used to plan and deliver safer rail projects. The solution introduces a new era of safety for trackside workers and will significantly reduce, if not eliminate, preventable accidents, near-misses and fatalities involving trackside workers on the UK’s rail network.
