We are delighted to announce the newest member of the Tended team - Kate Fyson!
Kate joins us as Chief Finance Officer and has a wealth of experience in financial leadership and growth management, so we’re excited to have Kate on board and look forward to the positive impact her expertise will bring to the team!
We took five minutes out of the day to chat with Kate and get to know her a little better...
What will you be responsible for in your new role at Tended?
My main role is to oversee and enhance the finance function at Tended, ensuring we have a strong and sustainable financial foundation to support our goals. In addition, I’ll be working closely with the executive team to shape and drive the company’s overall strategic direction.
Can you tell us a bit about your professional background?
I’ve been in various finance roles for nearly 25 years, beginning my career as a consultant focused on financial due diligence. After that, I joined a private equity fund as a Director, where I helped invest in and develop high-growth businesses. Over the years, I also served as CFO for several startup companies, building financial frameworks to support rapid scaling.
What do you think your knowledge/experience of working here bring to your new role at Tended?
My experience has given me the ability to dive into the details and ensure financial rigour and discipline, but also to take a step back and look at the bigger picture and focus on what’s really important. I understand how important it is to prioritise what truly matters for sustainable growth and long-term success.
What are you most excited about working for Tended?
I’m really excited to be part of such a passionate team, all working towards a shared mission to save lives and enhance safety on work sites. The idea of being able to contribute to a company that’s pioneering technology in safety is fulfilling.
What motivates you at work?
I really love what I do, especially the process of improving things—whether that’s refining a financial model, enhancing processes, or creating a positive working environment. I love problem-solving and finding ways to make the complex simple and efficient.
Do you have any pets?
Ha ha, for someone who is not an animal lover I have ended up with a busy garden. We have 6 chickens, 2 sheep (Colonel Mustard and Miss Scarlet), 3 pigs (Karen, Keith and Klive), 2 horses (Nala and Belle), 1 cat (Mittens) and a dog (Coco).
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Ah, free time, not something that I have much of! I love spending time with my family (I have 3 kids aged 15,14 and 11) - holidays, meals, games, cooking or just watching a film. I also love exercise and being outside - walking, running, biking or playing tennis. I play bridge regularly and catch up with friends (obviously with a glass of wine). If I really have time, I'll be in the garden as I am flower obsessed and have a veg patch as I dream of one day being self-sufficient!
How would your friends describe you?
Busy, capable, sporty, always up for a laugh and a challenge,
What is your proudest achievement?
That's rather difficult to say. My most recent proudest achievement was that I did my day skippers course last year with a friend in a rather hasty agreement. I sailed dingies as a kid but have not really done much for 30 years. I had a lot of theory cramming to do and I had to learn on the job very quickly (hampered by sea sickness) but it was a fabulous experience and reminded me that I must never stop challenging myself.
It's fantastic to have you with us, Kate!
